ERP for electronics and assembly

A custom ERP for electronics and electrical assembly that manages multi-level BOMs with revisions, component stock and purchasing, assembly orders for SMT, through-hole and box build, and serial numbers with test results for every unit. Buying components to real demand reduces excess stock and the risk of obsolete parts.

What does an electronics ERP need to handle?

An electronics ERP is a management platform that connects the bill of materials of each product to component stock, purchasing and the assembly orders on the shop floor. Because a single board can hold hundreds of parts, each with its own suppliers, lead times and alternatives, the BOM drives everything else, and every unit leaving the factory needs a serial number and a test history.

BOMs, revisions and component stock

The platform can manage multi-level BOMs: boards, subassemblies, cables, housings and the final product, each with its own revision. An engineering change creates a new revision, while open orders keep the one they were planned with. Components can be stored with manufacturer part numbers, approved alternatives and supplier references. Component stock can include reels, trays and cut tape, tracked per location and reserved per assembly order. Material requirements are calculated from orders and forecasts, so purchasing buys what is needed and shortages show up before a job reaches the line. Parts nearing end of life, or that have not moved in months, can be flagged.

Assembly orders, serial numbers and test

Assembly orders follow the route of each product:

  • Kitting and picking of components per order.
  • SMT placement, reflow and through-hole soldering, with the line or operator recorded.
  • Manual assembly, box build and wiring.
  • Functional or in-circuit test results stored per serial number, with failed units routed to repair.
  • Dispatch with the serial numbers of each shipment.

Because each serial number is linked to its BOM revision, component lots and test results, it is possible to see which units contain a given part, or what happened to a unit that comes back for repair. Costing per order compares planned and actual material and labour.

How we build it

Each platform is built around the client's own products, workflow and terminology, whether that is contract manufacturing, control panels or in-house products. It connects through APIs to the accounting and certified invoicing software the client already uses, and can import BOMs from the design tools the engineers work with. Live dashboards show shortages, orders in progress and test yields. Design, development and support come from our team in Sintra.
